Happy New Year!
Well 2020 has passed and 2021 is here now. There are a lot of people saying “good riddance” to 2020 but it will always be the year I fulfilled the first part of my dream and started my business.
I don’t do New Year Resolutions but I do embrace the concept of goals - without goals I find I wander aimlessly round the house wondering what to do.
So 2021 goals (feel free to hold me to these):
Move the business forward and set up some form of e-commerce
Continue with the blogs - they give me space to think about what has gone well and where I need to improve
Learn a new type of photography - that might be food or industrial - I’m not sure yet
Remember to take time to put the camera down occassionally and live in the moment rather in the view through the lens
Happy New Year - it’s been fun journeying with you all in 2020, I look forward to journeying further with you in 2021.
P.S. I got that shot I wanted!!!!!!
What can you do with a phone?
Well that depends on your phone really but most mobile phones (cell phones) come with good camera feature these days.
The photograph above was taken using my mobile (Honor 9) using the basic setting, the sun was in my eyes so it really was a case of point and shoot and hope!
Sometimes those shots are best, don’t overthink, just go with your instinct.
Of course it’s worth checking out what settings you mobile has - mine has a pro shot setting to adjust ISO and exposure but I rarely use that.
Autumn Light
Autumn is one of my favourite times of year. Such soft light through the day, perfect for photographs.
Granted you don’t get as much warmth from the sun but on a beautiful crisp day there’s nothing better than wrapping up and heading out with the camera. Just remember to let your camera acclimatise to the temperature to avoid condensation on your lens!
Alternatively if you fancy trying something different and you have one of those misty mornings, head out to the park or countryside and see what wildlife is around. A shot just slightly misted looks superb and the mist will dampen your noise so you can get closer (but not too close - remember you are in their world). P.S. I’m still waiting to get that shot!
A New Beginning
It’s taken a while to get here, mainly because I’m a perfectionist, but the website is now launched!
The actual process was fairly straightforward but choosing the photographs for the portfolio section had me working until past 10pm some nights.
The next stage will be to set up some form of method so people can buy cards or canvases but I’m taking my time, it’ll get there and I’d rather it was the right forum at the right time.
Keep an eye on the website and the YouTube channel for new content.
Getting Started
I’ve loved photography since I was little
I’ve loved photography ever since my parents bought me a simple camera for Christmas when I was little.
I grew up with film cameras which taught me so much about composition, lighting and structure - vital when you only have 36 shots to last a weeks holiday! I’ve progressed to digital these days but those early lessons stay with me.
This project is the realisation of my dream to move from enthusiastic amateur to professional photographer, it’s taken a long time and starting a business in the middle of a global pandemic may not be a wise move, but it’s time.
I hope you enjoy the site, I hope you like my work and most of all I’m going to love having you all along with me on this journey.
